One will quickly notice which attorneys and firms are held in high regard by judges, court staff, and other lawyers. Local attorneys will focus on and maintain a positive reputation in their local community. They are more likely to come prepared with a thorough, strategic approach to protect your case. Outside attorneys may never appear in that particular court again so they do not have this incentive.
2. Convenience- A local attorney will be reluctant to meet with you regularly, if their primary office is several hundred miles away. Being able to travel from your lawyer’s office to the court can take a matter of minutes when it comes to hiring a local attorney. The process can become less stressful when you’re on your attorney’s home turf.
3. Experience- A local attorneys experience can be knowing the people involved and how they have handled similar situations in the past will be valuable in many ways. For example, local attorneys will likely be familiar with the judge in your case, which can only be learned by appearing before them and having the experience in the courtroom. Knowledge of the courtroom and the individuals involved can help an attorney know how to present your case in the best way possible.
4. Knowledge of local rules/regulations - Every court is different because has its own specific rules of practice. A local attorney will shine with the knowledge and experience of local rules. A non-local attorney might offend the judge and damage your case without the knowledge of the local rules. A local attorney will understand the rules of the local court better than a visiting attorney ever will and can prove to be the difference to winning your case.
